Therefore, piece by piece and little by little people have begun to take action against the elements that we control, the overuse of which rob us of a healthy environment. Certain chemical plants have become more and more controversial whether the argument is to tear them down or to prevent a chemical plant from being built in a specific area

for a specific purpose.

It all started for me at a book club meeting. The woman, a friend of mine, who was hosting the meeting had told me on the phone only a few months before that she would be retiring in the next year. She said she really wanted to devote her time and energy to the environmental battle against global warming. We had not really discussed it at length. I was already trying to remember more to shut off bathroom lights, bedroom lights etc. that were not being used at the time. I recycle. I try to be aware of the threat against our world. However, I did not know

how many ways there were to do even more,

When we all arrived at the book club meeting it was, as usual, a beautiful sight, comfortable and inviting for everyone. My friend s living room was lit a lovely array of candles, and with only one lamp. Nonetheless, it was a wonderful ambiance for our meeting and provided enough light for reading as well! I have to say, I was surprised. The guest bathroom was open and a candle lit in the hallway provided plenty of light for someone to see their way into the bathroom.

There were a wide spread array of trays of cookies, beverages, and chips at the meeting, and my friend also

needed room for eight women with enough light to read, as well as easy access to a bathroom. Despite all of this, my friend was able to conduct a book club meeting with only candles and a single lamp to light the event. Incredibly impressed by this accomplishment I began to try to use similar, electricity saving methods in my own home.

At that time I began to investigate what other things are possible for people like me or just individuals in general to do to join in the effort. It is like the AIDS walk of Global Warming. It is the crusade to do what you can and

to help others to do the same. Depending on where you live there are many alternatives to electrical energy such as solar energy, wind turbines, and even hydraulic power systems that can prove to be incredibly effective. But even if this type of equipment is not as effective where you live, there are always things that anyone can do to help preserve our environment and contribute to the improvement of our world.

We all have to share the world we live in. And, as it has been adequately phrased in the past concerning global threats: they love their children as much as we do. In that none of us want to see another

incredibly devastating tsunami or tragic hurricane, perhaps all of us should consider our part, however small, in correcting the problem.

Candles can be expensive however, candles can also be cheap, safe and incredibly effective. Not only do they provide light as an alternative source to electricity, but also they can come in wonderful fragrances and provide an ambiance like you have never had. A family member of mine has found a place to buy safe candles at great prices. Since then she can not stop talking about how much easier it is for her to relax and unwind at home with the luxurious aesthetic and aromatic quality of candles as an alternative to electric lights.

My home

has a sun light installed in the roof above the foyer and a solar panel on one side of the house. It really makes much more of a difference than I thought saving money on our heating bill, the sturdiness of the glass and panels, as well as the fact that they are maintenance free.

At the same time, the place nearest to Susanna takes glass, cardboard, and newspapers, but not plastic. We (people such as Rosie and Susanna) often switch recyclables from time to time at garden parties and meetings to save each other time, get everything recycled, and

to help preserve the condition of the environment. We all want to preserve the beauty, health and environmental stability of our planet, and it is surprising to find out how much there is that you, as an individual, can do to contribute.
